Tea party

My mum recently came back from China and brought with her the most beautiful flower tea. All I could think of was the scene in Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette when she recieves the tea flower as a gift from the Chinese Emperor.

Although the plan had been to have an extravagant afternoon tea party we were too excited to wait and tried some out last night.

This is what it looks like before you add water.

Then it gradually opens to reveal what sort of resembles a sea creature.

Because each individual flower is sewn together using different flowers, you never know what you're going to get. The tea tastes amazing too by the way, I highly reccomend giving it a go if you manage to get your hands on some.

  1. This post is SO interesting to me. I did not know they still had tea flowers around. Awesome!

  2. Neither did I before this. I found that you can still get them in specialty tea shops... although they are rather pricey!
