Vintage... it's in my genes!

I've always been a collector, treasure hunter and hoarder, but what I didn't realise is that it's practically genetic!  Much to my surprise my father has a love for old goodies, antiques and treasures from the days gone by too.  I guess I never realised to what extent until I went to see him yesterday.  He handed my sister and I two bags full of all these beautiful pieces that really ought to be sitting in a museum somewhere.  I love that quite a few things are actually from what were local businesses around the area where I live.

Seriously, how cute is all this stuff?!  The only thing is that is is only the half of it and I'm not really sure what to do with everything.  Imagine though if I kept it until I was older and then should it to my grandchildren... I'm sure it would blow their minds (or bore them half to death).  Do you have any other vintage enthusiasts in your family or are you the black sheep?

  1. Haha, I love the, "Does not affect heart or throat" on the bottom tin. I don't know if it's nature or nuture but I definitely get my love of all things old from my Mum. Almost everything in my parents house is second hand, antique etc.

  2. I definitely got the antique love from my parents, especially my Mum. I cherish the few items I have from her Mother and her childhood home. I definitely wonder about the day my nieces are old enough to realize how weird their vintage wearing and loving Aunt really is! The 4 yr old already commented the other day on how my pants were so different from her Mums...haha.

  3. Thrifting/vintage shopping is in my genes too... my father took me to my first antique shop when I was 8 years old-- my first purchase was a '60s teak mouse brooch. :) My parents & I used to hit antique malls and garage sales every weekend of my childhood so I continued the tradition as a "grown up" (I'm 26 now hehe).
