The fix it job

I'm wondering if it's just me or whether others have fix it problems too.  I have a hoard of clothes which I have picked up from various second hand trips over the years which are not quite right.  Typical of me I bought them with the idea that I would go home and give them a snip, nip or tuck and they would become a whole new outfit.  Oh how wrong I've been!  Instead I have a pile of clothes that keeps swelling in size and taking up precious room.  The problem is that all though I can use a sewing machine and am well capable of adding a button here and there, I have absolutely NO patience nor am I a perfectionist.  So I don't dare go near these pieces...

I thought this dress was actually really beautiful but it had these massively hideous 80's sleeves on it.  So I took the sleeves off... but as you can see that's as far as I ever got.

This little number is also very sweet but it came complete with those awful 70's sleeves... so I chopped them off with the idea that I would fold them up and secure them with little buttons.
Hmmm you may remember this daggy dress from last year sometime.  I always intended to fix the sleeves and take the whole frock up a bit.

This high waisted woollen skirt is actually quite flattering but I wondered whether maybe it needs to be taken up a bit.
Anyway there you have it, I'm a slacker! Do you ever find yourself with the same problem?  I just wish I had the money to pay somebody else to do my alterations.

Oh and before I sign off I'll throw in a few pictures of one of our stalls from the weekend.  Selling at the markets is hard work!  Getting up at 6am, loading the car, unloading at the market, setting up, sitting there for hours (and at the moment in the wind and rain), packing up the car again, unloading at home, ironing all the clothes again... only to get up and do it all over again the next day!  It's still a lot of fun though and I think it will get easier as we figure things out.  At the moment we are trying out all the different markets to get a feel for where our things are best suited.  It's also going to take us a little while to polish up our store.  I am currently saving for all wooden coat hangers (they are insanely expensive!), a nice sturdy gazebo so that we don't get blown away at the slightest puff of wind, a portable changing room, fancy clothes tags... the list goes on and on!  But I suppose everything has to start somewhere right.

Anyway I hope you all had a great week.
xx

  1. Heh, I have a skirt that I use quite often, but the button came off. Last winter. There's still a safety pin keeping it together... And I use it very often as I said. :)

  2. I have the exact same problem! I have a huge trunk filled with projects that I haven't finished (or started..) yet.

  3. You have amazing items! And I am hoping to do a dressmaking course in the near future in order to minimise my own 'fix it' pile that has accumulated :) sharon xx
